The Dutch DJ and producer is a familiar face at the North of England festival, having first played in 2008. His selections this year spanned as many years and more, reflecting the history of the event and the sounds he is most associated with.

Timeless tracks such as Three Drives' classic, 'Greece 2000', CRW's 'I Feel Love', and Solarstone vs Sirocco ‘Destination’ all got an airing, albeit in forms reworked by Tiësto, with other classics like N-Trance 'Set You Free' also getting dropped.

More recent cuts included KETTAMA's 'Comes & Goes', 'Now We Are Free' by Elysian, and EMMRSN ‘Love Takes Me Higher’.

Original Tiësto productions also featured prominently, such as his Olivia Sebastianelli collaboration, 'Don't Lose Your Head', which opened the scoring, and an as-yet-unreleased effort with Benwal.

The trance-focused 76-minute show is the latest sign the artist is returning to the type of tunes that first shot him to fame, having already confirmed a new album dominated by the genre is coming in the near future.

This year's Creamfields festival was plagued by torrential rain and stormy winds on the opening Thursday night, bringing an end to extreme temperatures and heatwaves that defined the British summer.

A number of stages closed early before power was cut across the site for safety reasons. Normal service resumed the following day.

Despite adverse conditions, attendees described the four day marathon as a "mud bath... [with] world class music". Artists including Amelie Lens, Fatboy Slim, Disclosure, Martin Garrix, Chloé Caillet and Carl Cox were amongst those on the bill.

Prior to the event, Cheshire police discovered a "sizeable" stash of drugs that had been buried on site before production crews arrived to erect infrastructure and fencing.
