A banda de Brighton anunciou sua separação em janeiro de 2024, compartilhando o single de despedida 'Don't Want To Dance', seguido pelo seu último EP, 'The Machine Starts To Sing', em fevereiro.

They later embarked on a farewell tour and played their final show in Glasgow back in December.

Now Margolin has shared the first taste of her work as a solo artist with ‘Big Beautiful Sound’.

Escrita em colaboração com Sam Yardley e Dan Hutchins, a música foi construída sob a regra de que tudo gravado deve caber dentro dos limites de um gravador de 8 faixas.

The result is a deeply emotional, intimate track featuring an acoustic guitar and minimal percussion. Speaking about ‘Big Beautiful Sound’, Margolin said: “We go all the way down together, down a spiral staircase into the centre of the earth where there is darkness and nothing can grow, and we chose to go there, and wasn’t it fun, and right there at the deepest depths of the journey is a glowing ember, something luminous, a big and beautiful sound.”.

It comes alongside a black-and-white video by Mike Mills and Joe Nankin, which you can watch below.

Margolin is also heading on tour with Ezra Furman later this year. You can see a full list of dates below and get tickets here.

Back in 2020, shortly before the release of Porridge Radio’s ‘Every Bad’, NME spoke to Margolin. “It feels really good to have recorded something where I love how it sounds, especially after recording our first album in a shed,” she said.

About playing shows, she added: “I gained confidence in my abilities as a guitarist and as a singer from playing live,” she explains, “and I didn’t have any of that before; it was something I figured out as we went along.
