Max Richter Announces New Album While the Flood Rages

The German composer Max Richter has a new album on the way. While the Flood Rages arrives October 16 and features 15 tracks taken from his score of MaddAddam, a ballet inspired by a trilogy of post-apocalyptic Margaret Atwood novels.

The standalone album deals with themes of technological acceleration, ecological crisis, and human connection. The full tracklist isn’t available yet, but you can listen to the reflective first single, “Now We Can Sing,” below.

MaddAddam marks Richter’s third collaboration with choreographer Wayne McGregor, following 2017’s Three Worlds: Music From Woolf Works, and 2010’s Infra. More recently, Richter has stayed busy working on his solo catalog, with 2024’s In a Landscape and 2022’s The New Four Seasons - Vivaldi Recomposed.
