Celebrated singer-songwriter, label founder, and local bar owner Conor Oberst is about to add a new entry to his resume: filmmaker. His directorial debut, a short called Invention 13, will premiere on September 26 at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles.
According to a press release, the movie is about a frustrated pianist attempting to learn Bach’s “notoriously intricate Invention.” Co-directed with fellow musician Shawn Foree, the project stars actors Emory Cohen and Olivia Howard alongside pro skater Nelly Morville.
Oberst’s erstwhile Better Oblivion Community Center bandmate, Phoebe Bridgers, provides a voiceover, while Bright Eyes member Nathaniel Walcott wrote the score.
There’s no trailer yet so we’ll post it when it becomes available. Revisit The Music That Made Conor Oberst.
