Crews were dismantling the stage following the singer-songwriter’s gig at Detroit Ford Field when the accident happened on Saturday (August 29).
Fire department dispatch audio revealed crews were sent to the stadium around 11pm local time for what was described as a “forklift injury accident”, according to Click On Detroit.
The workers were believed to be near a ramp in a vehicle tunnel when the equipment lost control and hit several of them, just as they were walking away to go on break.
Six crew members were reportedly taken to the hospital, though none of them suffered life-threatening injuries. One of them was kept in the hospital overnight.
Two patients were reportedly in a serious condition and four were in stable condition.
Sheeran is yet to comment publicly on the incident, but the Detroit Ford Stadium said in a statement via The Independent: “Ford Field has begun a full review and is cooperating with the appropriate authorities and with the event’s production partners.
Out of respect for the people involved and the integrity of that review, we will not speculate on the cause. We are grateful to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their rapid response.”.
It was not immediately clear what piece of equipment was involved and what caused the accident.
Elsewhere, Sheeran was a surprise special guest at the Pokémon World Championships at San Francisco’s Chase Center the following night (August 30).

He took to the stage to perform his 2022 Pokémon Scarlet & Violet anthem ‘Celestial’ before an acoustic run-through of the original theme for the anime.
Sheeran will continue his US tour at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey this Friday (September 4).
