Gary Glitter pleads not guilty to historical sex offence charges

Gary Glitter has pleaded not guilty to eight charges of historical sexual offences against a girl aged between eight and 11.

The disgraced singer and convicted child sex offender, whose real name is Paul Gadd, entered his pleas at Southwark Crown Court today (September 2).

Appearing via video link from prison, the 82-year-old denied four charges of indecent assault of a girl under 13, two counts of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and two counts of indecency with a child under 13.

Gadd replied that he was “absolutely not guilty” to two of the charges before repeating “not guilty” to the remaining six, according to BBC News.

All eight counts relate to the same complainant and the alleged incidents occurred between March 1978 and December 1981.

Gadd has been accused of giving the girl chocolate and inviting her to his home in West London, where the offences are said to have taken place.

Judge Tony Baumgartner remanded Gadd in custody and adjourned proceedings ahead of a three-week trial set to start in November 2027.

The allegations were first reported to the Metropolitan Police in January last year, with Gadd subsequently interviewed six months later. Gadd was initially charged this July, with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault of a girl under 14.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court last month, where he denied the allegations and said that he did not know the complainant.

Gadd rose to fame as Gary Glitter during the 1970s, releasing hits including ‘Rock And Roll (Parts One And Two)’ and ‘I’m The Leader Of The Gang (I Am)’.

He is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2015 of sexual offences against three schoolgirls.
