14 people hospitalised during Chainsmokers show in San Jose

The San José Fire Department responded to "reports of multiple patients requiring medical attention" at the US EDM duo of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart's open-air concert at Discovery Meadow at 8 PM on 4th September, according to the SJFD's X account, via Billboard.

Upon arrival at the scene, they called for "advanced life support fire units" and the Ambulance Task Force for assistance. By 10:30 PM, 14 ambulances had transported 14 people to local hospitals.

Details of the injuries were not publicised, though local police told NBC Bay Area they were the result of "suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues.

The injuries have not been reported as severe, and no one has been arrested so far, according to SF Gate.

A few commenters pointed out the potential insensitivity of that caption in the face of the hospitalisations. The Chainsmokers replied to one such comment, writing: "Some kids drank too much apparently.

Everyone is fine. This happens at concerts as you can imagine. I’m not sure why certain news articles are trying to make it a story. We saw the articles [the] day after and asked the event organizers if anything happened and they told us nothing out of the ordinary for a concert.

This is the second Chainsmokers show in less than a month where multiple attendees were sent to hospital. At a 9th August set during Palm Springs' Splash House Festival, a 35-year-old man threw glass bottles in the crowd after getting into a dispute, CBS News reports.

Nine people who were not involved in the fight were injured, with seven sent to local hospitals for treatment. The man turned himself into police days later and was arrested "on suspicion of several counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
