Eiffel Tower shut by staff protest after female workers moved for religious visit

A Torre Eiffel foi fechada na segunda-feira depois que os funcionários entraram em greve por causa da remoção de trabalhadoras para a visita de um grupo religioso hindu, disseram os trabalhadores e a gerência.

Uma delegação de cerca de 100 pessoas vinculadas ao grupo Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) visitou o marco na capital francesa no sábado.

Representante sindical do staff Diane Davoine diz que, ao chegarem ao monumento, as mulheres foram instruídas a se mover.

Durante a visita desta delegação, as mulheres foram solicitadas a deixar seus postos de trabalho para que homens fossem colocados lá, ela disse à Reuters. Davoine também disse que a gerência já havia pedido desculpas aos trabalhadores pelo incidente.

BAPS consecrated its first major temple in France on Sunday, in the suburbs of Paris.

In a statement on X, the BAPS temple in Paris said their trip was "arranged in conjunction with the Eiffel Tower team at the start of normal opening hours to avoid disrupting or inconveniencing others.

It apologised "for any pain or inconvenience caused", adding "we believe in the universal values of mutual respect and service.

On its website, BAPS describes itself as a "spiritual, volunteer-driven fellowship dedicated to improving society" through Hindu values.
