A rare version of Röyksopp’s 2001 album ‘Melody A. M.’, featuring artwork by Banksy, has sold for £3,720 at auction.
The edition dates back to 2002, when the Norwegian duo sent Banksy 100 blank sleeves to customise. The elusive Bristol artist returned them with Röyksopp’s name spray-painted in green using a bespoke stencil.
One of the 100 customised copies was recently sold through Wessex Auction Rooms to a local street-art collector. According to the BBC, the collector initially missed the lot but immediately contacted the auction house afterwards with an offer of £3,000, eventually securing the record for £3,720.
Auctioneer and vinyl expert Martin Hughes told the BBC that the price was largely determined by Banksy’s artwork, rather than the condition of the record, which had “definitely been played”, or Röyksopp themselves.
Röyksopp have remained active in recent years, with the pair returning to their club roots through ‘True Electric’, a live-focused release built around 19 new recordings and reworked versions of tracks from their catalogue.
The project followed 2024’s surprise ambient LP, ‘Nebulous Nights’, and was accompanied by ‘True Electric’ tour dates across Europe, Australia and North America.
