The team behind the venue has secured a premises licence, with plans to use the space for electronic music events.
Bristol is getting a new music venue located inside a former ODEON cinema.
Following the approval of a premises licence last week, local promoters Luke Turner and Jack Scales are transforming the Union Street site into a multi-disciplinary cultural space.
The currently unnamed venue will host a diverse programme of electronic music events, alongside film screenings and theatre productions, as per Bristol24/7.
With their current venue, The Underground, facing closure due to upcoming building redevelopment, Turner and Scales are shifting their operations to focus fully on launching the new city-centre venture alongside their existing projects, Saw Mills and Alfresco Disco.
Under the terms granted by a Bristol City Council licensing sub-committee hearing last week, the venue is cleared to stay open until 5AM on Fridays and Saturdays, with a 4AM licence in place from Sunday to Thursday.
The space has been closed since February this year, when it showed its last film as an ODEON cinema. It first opened as a movie theatre in 1938.
Speaking to Bristol24/7 about the new project, Turner and Scales said: “We want to add something into Bristol for the people of Bristol, just something that will really add to the Bristol culture.
It's such a unique space to have a music venue. It’s an amazing building and it’s almost fit for purpose already.”.
More information, including an opening date, is set to be announced in the coming months.
