My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way reveals plans to make new album in 2027 and return to touring in 2028

Way made the comments during the band’s ‘Devil’s Night’ concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles last night (October 30), the first of two special Halloween weekend performances at the venue.

Addressing the audience about the band’s future plans, he said: “So yeah, next year, we wanna go make a record,” prompting screams and cheers from the crowd.

My Chemical Romance acaba de anunciar que no próximo ano eles querem lançar outro álbum.

Os comentários seguem as observações de Way na noite de encerramento da fase norte-americana de sua turnê “Long Live The Black Parade” em San Antonio no mês passado.

On that occasion, he told fans: “Just know that, like, we’ve kind of really always wanted to make another record, so we hope that life allows us to do that.”.

A new album would be their first since 2010’s ‘Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys’. The group split in 2013 before reuniting in 2019, and have released just one new song since their comeback, ‘The Foundations Of Decay’, in 2022.

During his previous comments in San Antonio, Way reflected on the death of longtime collaborator and producer Doug McKean, who worked on ‘The Foundations Of Decay’ before passing away later that year.

Way explicou que a banda estava empolgada em produzir mais música após o lançamento da música, mas que a morte de McKean e outras circunstâncias interromperam seus planos.

Elsewhere at Friday’s Hollywood Bowl concert, MCR reunited with The Used frontman Bert McCracken onstage for the first time since 2005.

The two singers were close friends during the early years of their careers, but their relationship deteriorated during the mid-2000s, around the time Way was pursuing sobriety.

Durante o set de abertura do The Used, McCracken disse ao público que “mom and dad are back together again”, antes que Way se juntasse a ele para uma performance de ‘Buried Myself Alive’.

McCracken subsequently returned during MCR’s headline set for ‘You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison’, from the band’s 2004 album ‘Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge’.

Friday’s concert also saw My Chemical Romance perform ‘We Don’t Need Another Song About California’ live for the first time. Originally released as an iTunes-exclusive bonus track on ‘Danger Days’ in 2010, the song was made more widely available earlier this year as part of an expanded 15th anniversary edition of the album.

The Hollywood Bowl residency has seen MCR become the first group to play five consecutive nights at the historic Los Angeles venue.

Friday’s concert also opened with ‘Prelude To The End’, the band’s new animated short film featuring voice contributions from Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers and more.

The group return to the Hollywood Bowl tonight (October 31) for the final concert of their residency, before continuing their world tour in Asia next month.
